I am ordering it as well with the main program). Thanks for the help! Can't wait to order the program and what ever sound files I need (Real Tracks #33 is on the list, but I don't think it is the same as I am asking about here. For those I need some kind of sound font, No? The real tracks will be good for playing back up, but not the actual notes that are in the midi tracks.

My ultimate object is to play my collection of Banjo music with the BIAB software to make my own learning tracks, but better sounding than the standard DLS files that come with the mac. In other DAWs (like garageband) I know Sound Fonts work this way, but I think the Real Tracks I see for BIAB are 1-8 measures of playing, and not individual notes that can fill in the MIDI notes imported, so what do I need to order to get the Mandolin/Banjo/Bass/Fiddle/Guitar sounds for a bluegrass band? So, I can use Real Banjo sound fonts or whatever they are in BIAB to play the songs. I am ordering it this week, and I am wanting to clarify that I can import a MIDI file with the arrangement I want to play and tie Real Instruments sounds to the different instrument tracks. I am wondering if you can clear up something for me regarding BIAB. Or iPhone.Ĭertainly worth $10 to try before buying BIAB.

I don't use it on my Android phone, but it should work there also. I'm surprised I don't hear a bit more about it on here. ? Look at it this way - you could buy iReal AND a new tablet for about the same as BIAB with just MIDI :) ( correction - I believe it WILL let you save WAV files)īIAB probably does all that - and more - but again, $10 versus $150 or $200. The only reason I'd convert to WAV/MP3 from BIAB would be to play them on my tablet instead of hauling my laptop up to my room or being tied to a desktop. I don't think iReal lets you save WAV or MP3s, but that doesn't matter to me.You can also download a bunch of playlists, one of which includes over 100 bluegrass tunes. And you can specify ending BPM instead of an increment. I think you can do this with pitch (key) also. By the end of the 30 loops I'm at 140 BPM, after gradually speeding up. So I start a song at 80 BPM, loop it 30 times, automatically incrementing by 2 BPM. You set a starting tempo, tell it to loop the song (up to 30 times), and increment the tempo by x beats per minute. (I also downloaded a bunch of backing tracks generously posted here by Eric, Prince of BHO)

The midi stuff is FINE for learning and practicing. Yes, BIAB can add realistic sampled instruments.

And then play! I have it on my 7" tablet, and I have a small portable bluetooth speaker, and it's the perfect setup for practicing. Put in chords, select a style (there's bluegrass), etc etc. if you have an Android device (or iPhone/iPad), I HIGHLY recommend a product called iReal. Though I never did really use it much, since I didn't get serious about learning until starting lessons a year and a half ago. I have BIAB (old 2005 version) and I think it's an awesome tool.
